Fishing Techniques

The Hoodoo is the perfect size river for fishing from the plentiful gravel bars that are available. The river is easily waded and allows for greater versatility to work areas where fish are abundant.  You can fly fish or use conventional spin cast gear. The Hoodoo River is a perfect river for the avid fly fisherman.  Many of our clients have had their first fly fishing experiences with us and primarily fly fish for the rest of their stays.  Our experienced guides are there to assist you in whatever method you prefer. Whether fly fishing or conventional tackle, their knowledge of the river and the most effective techniques are waiting to put you on the fish.

The Hoodoo yields abundant runs of the three most sought after salmon species. The species available is dependent on when you schedule your adventure.  The King (Chinook) Salmon range from 15 to 40 pounds, Red (Sockeye) Salmon 6 to 14 pounds, and Silver (Coho) Salmon 10 to 18 pounds. There are abundant native Rainbow Trout up to 26 inches, Dolly Varden up to 24 inches and a healthy run of Steelhead that average around 30 inches.

Hoodoo Sport Fishing is confident your adventure will exceed your expectations for a truly remote Alaskan sports fishing experience.
